The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed John Jaso to a two-year, $8 million contract.

Jaso, 32, has played mostly in the outfield and at catcher in the past, but the Pirates plan to use him at first base. He has played first in just two Major Leagues games.

"John is enthusiastic about playing in Pittsburgh and developing as a first baseman," Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said. "We feel he has the ability to play the position at the major league level."

Jaso will earn $4 million in each of the next two seasons under the deal. He can make an additional $1 million annually in performance bonuses.

Former Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy has agreed to a three-year deal worth $37.5 million with the Nationals, a club source told ESPN's Jim Bowden. 

Murphy set a major league record with homers in six straight postseason games and earned NLCS MVP honors.

He hit .281 with 38 doubles, 14 homers and 73 RBIs in 499 regular-season at-bats.

The Cleveland Indians have signed Ross Detwiler to a Minor League contract with an invitation to spring training.

Detwiler, who turns 30 on March 6, was 1-5 with a 7.25 ERA in seven starts and 34 relief appearances for the Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves in 2015.

The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a five-year, $80 million contract with Mike Leake.

The contract also includes a mutual option for the 2021 season.

It includes a full no-trade clause and could increase in value to $93 million if the option is exercised.

The Colorado Rockies have agreed to a three-year, $10.4 million contract with Adam Ottavino.

The right-handed reliever receives $1.3 million next year, $2.1 million in 2017 and $7 million in 2018 under the agreement. He would have been eligible for free agency after the 2017 season.

Ottavino, 30, underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May.

The A's have reached agreement on a one-year contract with free-agent right-hander Henderson Alvarez pending completion of a physical exam, a baseball source confirmed to ESPN.com.

Right-hander Jarrod Parker has reached agreement on a one-year, $850,000 contract with the A's, avoiding arbitration. 

The A's announced the deal, which includes $425,000 guaranteed, on Saturday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Ryan Vogelsong, but the terms of the deal are unknown.

Vogelsong logged a rough 4.67 ERA with 7.2 K/9 against 3.9 BB/9 last season.

The Texas Rangers have agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with Colby Lewis, according to a source.

The deal is pending a physical on the pitcher's surgically repaired right knee, and that exam likely won't happen until after the holidays.

Lewis was a free agent after setting career highs last season and leading the Rangers with 17 wins and 204 2/3 innings.

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a three-year, $8 million extension with Nate Jones.

The value of the reliever's deal could escalate to $26.3 million over six years if certain parameters are met.

Jones made 19 appearances last season after returning from Tommy John surgery in 2014.
